The church of St Nicholas at Remenham in Berkshire. This picturesque church and the suirrounding houses of the village sit close to the banks of the River Thames.The Thames Path (a long distamce trail) passes close by. Remenham is also close to the start of the Henley Royal Regatta course at Temple Island. The church is Norman in origin and records exist of the first rector in 1076. It also received a mention in the Domesday Book (1086). However, the building as we see it dates from 1870.

Temple Island is a small island or eyeot standing in the River Thames between Buckinghamshire and Berkshire near the village of Remenham, Berkshire. It marks the start of the Henley Royal Regatta course. The 'temple' was designed by James Wyatt in 1771 as a fishing lodge for nearby Fawley Court. In the 1980s it was purchased by Henley Royal Regatta and has now been restored to its former glory and is now used for corporate events. The downstream area of the island is a nature reserve. The regatta course for the Henley Royal Regatta. Along the towpath (aka the Thames Path) at Remenham in Berkshire, is a post marked for a quarter of a mile. The regatta coiurse is 1 mile 550 yards long and starts just downstream from Temple Island (in the background), finishing just downstream of Henley Bridge. An impressionistic view of the Thames as it flows past Remenham in Berkshire, very near Henley-on-Thames. Having crossed the river at Henley we are now on the Berkshire bank walking along the Thames Path - a long distance footpath. Looking over from the moorings on the Henley (Oxfordshire) side of the River Thames to the Remenham (Berkshire) side where the crew' tents and grandstands are being erected for Henley's annual Royal Regatta. This prestigious event which attracts rowers and spectators from home and abroad has been ongoing since 1839. The 'Royal' addition to its name came when Prince Albert became patron, a position taken on by all reigning monarchs since then. The Regatta lasts for five days at the start of July.
