The 51st Signal Battalion is a United States Army unit which is part of the 35th Signal Brigade located at Joint Base Lewis-McChord (JBLM; formerly the separate Fort Lewis and McChord AFB), Washington. Its mission is to rapidly deploy worldwide to engineer, install, operate, maintain, and defend the LandWarNet in support of full spectrum operations. The battalion deployed to Iraq in 2003-2004 and in 2008-2009 and sent elements to Afghanistan in 2010 and 2011.

The unit was redesignated on 1 August 1966 as the 44th Signal Battalion, allotted to the Regular Army, and activated in Vietnam. It was inactivated on 1 March 1970 in Vietnam. It was reactivated on 17 March 1972 in Vietnam. The 44th Signal Battalion was again activated on 16 March 1981 in Germany. Headquartered in Mannheim, the "Fighting 44th" was geographically dispersed from Darmstadt to Heilbronn. The 512th conducted signal operations in support of the 1st Special Service Force and the three Parachute Infantry Battalions that comprised the 1st Airborne Task Force.

The 17th Sig Bn (Op) provided command operations signal support. The 17th Sig Bn was inactivated on 25 September 1965 in Germany. The Battalion's mission was to provide Command and Control Communications to the V Corps Commanding General and subordinate units. In December of 1992 the Battalion moved to Larson Barracks in Kitzingen, Germany.
