In 1946, investment banker Scribner Birlenbach decided that he wanted to get into the trucking business. He began his venture by purchasing a Los Angeles trucking company with 15 tractors and 22 trailers, calling it Transcon Lines, with a plan to turn it into a major transcontinental carrier. By 1962, Transcon had over 1,100 units covering over 14,000 route miles. In three decades time, Transcon had purchased 27 trucking companies, including Kramer-Consolidated Freight Lines in 1978, which made them a true coast-to-coast carrier. Transcon's work force was 3,829 people strong with 5,700 pieces of equipment and 117 terminals in 38 states as of 1981, but as the '80s marched on, Transcon's fortunes began to turn.

Photography of the famous state road sign for old route 66. Route 66 is known as the Mother Road and is also famous for the 1946 song by Bobby Troup (Get your kicks on route 66).

While Idaho may be known as The Potato State, The Centennial State actually produces their fair share of spuds as well. Bison Brand Potatoes from Greeley, Colorado is one such example and from what we can tell, they were produced from 1941 until 1978.

In the early '40s, C.S. (Clarence) "Turby" Turbeville and Ike Walker fished their local Texas lakes and found themselves working to improve existing lure designs to work better in their local fishing spots. After coming up with a new design altogether that proved to be highly effective, friends began requesting them, and soon after, so did local stores. Seeing the potential, these two north Texas fishermen set up in a garage in 1944, working nights making their new lures as Bomber Bait Co. In 1946, the Bomber Bait Co. was incorporated, and new machine processes were developed. A year later, Bomber was already making 1,000 lures a day – a significant output for a product that had yet to see national advertising!

The R.S.R.O.A. (Roller Skating Rink Operators Association) says, "Make a date to rollerskate"!

Tiger Tractor Corporation was a manufacturer of small garden and utility tractors that ranged from 5 to 9 horsepower Based in Keyser, West Virginia, Tiger produced 14 different models ranging during their history between 1947 and 1965. Tiger tractors were produced in fairly small numbers, making them pretty rare, though not really any more valuable than any other small tractors from the era.
