(from my inktober drawings of 2017, I was following tumblr user ochibrochi's prompts.) Mysterious and seductive women whose charms ensnare their lovers, leading them into dangerous, and deadly situations. Everyone talked like their beauty, charm, and sexual allure, was almost supernatural like. If only the knew the truth. With just a few spells these witches could entrance and hypnotize their victims, to “charm” them if you so wish to say. But there was only one warning about these witches… Be wary of the femme fatale.

The Melody Lane Cafes (there were several in the Los Angeles area) were owned and operated by the Pig'n Whistle Corporation. First acquired in 1927, Melody Lane was an established downtown cafe near the music publishing companies and was a popular hangout for musicians and radio personalities. When prohibition was repealed, Melody Lane began building cocktail lounges within their units. They were one of the first Los Angeles restaurants to do so. Mr. Magoo (known by his full name: J. Quincy Magoo) is a fictional cartoon character created at the UPA animation studio in 1949. Voiced by Jim Backus, Mr. Magoo is an elderly, wealthy, short-statured retiree who gets into a series of comical situations as a result of his extreme near-sightedness, compounded by his stubborn refusal to admit the problem. However, through uncanny streaks of luck, the situation always seems to work itself out for him, leaving him no worse than before. Bystanders consequently tend to think that he is a lunatic, rather than just being near-sighted. In later cartoons, he is also an actor, and generally a competent one, except for his visual impairment.

Version 3 of my artwork for The Third Man featuring the inimitable Orson Welles recalls one of the greatest and coolest screen entrances of all time, as Harry Lime attempts to hide in the dark from Holly Martins, but the apartment light illuminates just his face along with a very Welles-ian coy grin, revealing the shocking truth that he is in fact very much alive. As Welles himself said, the role of Harry Lime was a "star part" - meaning one in which the character is spoken of often until finally making an entrance - and he played it to perfection.
