For Throwback Thursday (or Flashback Friday) I thought I'd share a design I did for Democrats Abroad Cambodia. The designs promoted the organization and events centered around getting Expats (Democrats and Republicans) registered to vote. On June 30, 1936, California Texas Oil Co., Ltd. (Caltex) is created as a joint and equal venture between Standard Oil Co. (Socal, later Chevron) of California and The Texas Co. (Texaco). The Texaco Star is already a hallmark of quality, service and reliability. Therefore, the Caltex logo – comprising a red star intersected by the word “CALTEX” in black letters – is only a subtle departure from the Texaco logo of that time. This artwork is from the 1959 Caltex booklet "Driving Abroad" which is a guide for traveling internationally.

I Took A Walk In The Woods / Henry David Thoreau

Sitting just off the atrium, Bon Voyage is one of the prettiest, if not smallest, of the Dream’s bars, with just ten seats at the counter, plus four covered armchairs a few feet away. The two highlights here are the gorgeous Art Deco mural behind the bar, which shows well-heeled passengers in 1920’s formalwear departing their touring cars to board the Dream; and the swirled, maize-yellow, illuminated bar face, which reflects gold light off the beige marble floors.
