Bagan, located on the banks of the Irrawaddy River, is home to the largest and densest concentration of Buddhist temples, pagodas, stupas and ruins in the world with many dating from the 11th and 12th centuries. Bagan became a central powerbase in the mid 9th century under King Anawratha, who unified Burma under Theravada Buddhism. It is estimated that as many as 13,000 temples and stupas once stood on this 42 sq km plain in central Burma. Approximately 2,000 remain today, in various states of disrepair. Some are large and well maintained, such as the Ananda Pahto, others are small tumbledown relics in the middle of overgrown grass. Mashup based in the north-american alternative cult band Hüsker Dü. There's not much official merch and the band doesn't exist for decades, so I thought I could create some new of my liking. Hüsker Dü was a band famous for having two excellent songwriters with different styles that wrote awesome songs: *Bob Mould* and Grant Hart. So I thought I could make a design for each one of them, so you can choose your favourite Hüsker Dü songwriter. Burma-Shave was introduced in 1925 by the Burma-Vita Co. of Minneapolis. The company's original product was a liniment with ingredients described as being "from the Malay Peninsula and Burma" (hence its name). Sales were sparse, and the company sought to expand sales by introducing a product with wider appeal. The result was the Burma-Shave brand of brushless shaving cream and its supporting advertising program using humorous rhyming poems on small sequential signs along highways. Sales increased and at its peak, Burma-Shave was the second-highest-selling brushless shaving cream in the US. Sales began declining in the '50s and in 1963 the company was sold and by the end of the decade, Burma-Shave would be no more.

Old Pa'o woman at Phaung Daw Oo Paya market. Pa-O people are the second largest ethnic group in Shan State. Their homeland tends to correspond with the most visited part of Shan State, the Kalaw, Pindaya and Inle lake region, although the Pa-O are also found east past Taunggyi and south into Kayah State Highland Pa-O traditional dress is highly distinctive, with the women wearing plain black or indigo tunics with narrow blue and/or red trim and brightly coloured turbans wrapped around their heads, mostly in orange and red. As with many ethnic groups, the menfolk don’t favour traditional dress too much, though you may often also see them wearing turbans in a much wider colour and pattern range.

This woman is taking a break from the market at Phaung Daw Oo Paya at Inle Lake. Another of the weekly markets. The pagoda itself houses five ancient buddha images that are not recognisable because of the layers of gold leaves stuck onto them. However, best time to visit is September.

View of Bagan from another shrine of the vast site. Bagan is an ancient city located in the Mandalay Region of Burma. From the 9th to 13th centuries, the city was the capital of the Kingdom of Pagan, the first kingdom to unify the regions that would later constitute modern Myanmar. During the kingdom's height between the 11th and 13th centuries, over 10,000 Buddhist temples, pagodas and monasteries were constructed in the Bagan plains. Over 2200 temples and pagodas still survive to the present day.

The Royal Hotel at 619 Merchant Street (the corner of Merchant Street and Brooking Street) was built in 1905. It was once one the three top hotels in the city, together with the Strand and Minto Mansions and prided itself on being the "most modern", with the first electric lift of any hotel. The handsome restaurant downstairs was the scene of many historic meetings. The original owner, JW Darwood, also built the Strand Hotel (text by Lost Footsteps). Revisit the yesteryears of travel with this logo inspired by vintage hotel luggage labels.

In western Shan State is picturesque Inle Lake, famous for its floating villages, gardens and markets and the unique way of life of the local Intha people, with their functioning communities based entirely on the water. The lake, which measures 22 km long by 10 km wide, and sits in a valley between two mountain ranges. In villages and towns across the lake, wooden houses are built high on stilts and fishermen steer their one-man boats with a unique rowing style, wrapping one leg around their oar. Trekking from the village of Kalaw to Inle Lake lasts 2 days during which we cross various villages. It's really a beautiful course to do that transports you out of our time.

Here the woman is weaving cloth, others use silk and even lotus stems. The cloth is also dyed on site by other family members. She lives and works in the building which is divided between work space and living space on upper floor.

Ywama Market is a very touristy place, best avoided. Nearly all the stalls are given over to tourist tat. The other markets around Inle Lake are far better - for the moment.
