Cambois Pins and Buttons

Early July morning over the North Sea as seen from Blyth in Northumberland on the North East coast of England. The day was forecast to be the hottest of the year and the beautiful calm early morning saw lovely light and a sky which was reminiscent of a Turner painting (well, to me it did!)

A sunny February morning on the beach at Seaton Sluice in Northumberland on the North East coast of England. There is a four mile stretch of sandy beach between the tidal harbour at Seaton Sluice and the mouth of the River Blyth with its piers and lighthouse, this image was shot at the Seaton Sluice end looking north towards Blyth and the beautiful blue sky was reflected perfectly in the standing water of the pools on the only rocky outcrop on the beach.

This image was taken on a cold, windy October morning from Blyth beach in Northumberland looking north over a wooden groyne towards the Cambois pier and lighthouse. The low angle of the morning sun was catching the wet groyne and illuminating the crests of the waves and the lighthouse at the end of the pier.

An almost forgotten memorial to an almost forgotten industry. This memorial marks the site of Cambois Colliery in the old Northumberland Coal Field. The colliery has long since closed and the memorial is becoming overgrown and neglected; a sad outcome after the toil, sweat. tears and loss of life in this once proud industry.

The Spirit of the Staithes is a public artwork on the quayside at the Port of Blyth in Northumberland on the North East coast of England. The artwork commemorates the old wooden staithes which stood on the spot when the port was the biggest exporter of coal in the world. The Tall Ship Williams II can be seen on the extreme right of the photograph.

The Cambois Pier is a mile long and has a working lighthouse at the end, the old wooden pier used to have a lighthouse but this was demolished some time ago.
