Just after sunrise on a cold February morning at the mouth of the River Blyth in Northumberland as it flows into the North Sea between twin piers on the North East coast of England. There was no red or gold in the sky that morning, just a blue cast over the whole scene reflected in the calm water.

This image, taken from the end of the Promenade at Blyth in Northumberland shows the sweep of sand and dunes looking south towards Seaton Sluice and St Mary's Island. This is the southern end of a four mile stretch of sand and dunes captured on a sunny summer morning.

There are two piers at the mouth of the River Blyth in Northumberland. The Cambois Pier is a mile long and has a working lighthouse at the end, the old wooden pier used to have a lighthouse but this was demolished some time ago. The image has been converted to black and white to emphasise the lovely cloud formations.

This image was taken at low tide in early January and shows the broken groyne on Blyth beach with Cambois pier and a very clear view to the horizon.

The South Harbour at Blyth in Northumberland is the home of the Royal Northumberland Yacht Club and this image of the 'home yacht' and marina was shot on a cold, sunny April morning when the calm conditions were good for the reflections of the yachts on the water. The image was converted to monochrome to emphasise the contrasts in the sky and on the water.

The image was taken from the old Wooden Pier which together with Cambois Pier and its lighthouse, guard the river mouth. The sun seems to be rising between the piers under a threatening sky and casting the fog horn into silhouette. There is also a lady walking towards the end of the pier with her two dogs enjoying the spectacle.

The colours in the sky gave promise of a fine day to come as the dark clouds were slowly moving away.
