Golden-Mantled Ground Squirrel by Debra Martz The Golden-mantled ground squirrel is a small squirrel like a chipmunk, with grayish-brown fur and two white stripes edged with black stripes. With that said, the first time I saw one of these at Briyce Canyon, I thought it was a Chipmunk. When I started trying to find out which variety, I discovered it was a squirrel.
