I am darkwing duck

A return to wildlife watercolours. From the start of this year I've been fortunate to have taken on a job where one of the daily tasks is to feed the garden's birds. This has allowed me the opportunity to capture some primary photographic reference that I've then painted from. When it comes to wildlife paintings, I like to work in watercolours because it adds a bit more of that hand painted element. Mistakes can be made and it only adds to the final product. I also worked these paintings a little more illustrative by adding in some thick outlines, cross hatching where it was welcomed and a little touch of pencils and paint pens. This is my acrylic painting of a mallard duck drake. The mallard is a dabbling duck. It has an area of white-bordered black or iridescent blue feathers call a speculum on their wings.

This is a portrait of Sir Drake Mallard an eminent Victorian duck gentleman. He is seated on a fallen trunk by the riverside. The original was painted in acrylic on cotton.

Canon Rebel T3i The Mallard Duck is the most common of the North American Ducks. The male has a bright green head, white neck band, rusty breast, pale grey body and a violet blue speculum bordered in white. He has black central tail feathers which curl up.
