The Golden Age Variant of the Red Lantern.

Marine Sergeant Terry Gardner, a former private detective and former champion wrestler, tangles with some Germans, who seek to murder Wilmer, the man Gardner is protecting. A gypsy is killed. The gypsy's parrot, named Snoopy, helps Gardner to avenge his owner's death. Snoopy visits Gardner and inspires him by giving him a card telling him that "At Twilight you will be Master." Thus inspired, Terry buys a costume for himself and begins fighting crime as Twilight.

Gary Kennedy and his brother were shot down by criminals. He vowed to return from the dead to avenge his brother's death - and he did, becoming a ghost with the ability to be super strong when solid and fly or possess people as a ghost. He used his new ghostly powers to fight crime.

Ace Egan found a crashed UFO in the year 1940. He decided to use the ship's advanced technological wonders to combat criminals as the costumed aviator the Ace of Space.

Ace Harlem was an African-American police detective who operated in an unnamed American city (most likely New York City). He was an observant, skillful detective with a track record that earned him the respect of the city's African-American community. He was a strong believer in justice as an innate force in the universe, that, one way or another, anybody who embarks on the life of crime will eventually suffer the consequences. He came into conflict with the professional criminal, Charm Root.

Black X (sometimes known as Black Ace) was a charming American spy who fought the enemies of freedom both overseas and back in the states. He was originally Richard Spencer, a Washington D.C. bureaucrat and a fierce fighter against corruption. He faked his death in order to continue helping his country without worrying about being targeted. When World War II ended, he retired from spying and became a private investigator.

U.S. Army Private Jack Weston wanted to do more to contribute to the war effort than just being stationed at Camp Blaine. He decided to put on a costume and fight as Minute-Man. He also became a member of the Crime Crusaders Club with Bulletman and Bulletgirl. He had no powers, but demonstrated tremendous strength, agility, courage and fighting prowess.

Rusty Adams works by day as a copy boy for the Daily Herald. When danger threatens, however, he puts on a costume and becomes "Crash Kid, boy nemesis to gangdom!" He has no superpowers.

Steve Prentice was a lawyer. After being set up in a murder case, he decided to become like the fabled Pied Piper and draw those criminal rats out of hiding. The Pied Piper had a large and unique collection of flutes with some even having the ability to control the weak minded.

Nancy Lewis is at home considering her engagement to Roy Carlson. Roy is a scientist too busy to spend time away from his experiments, even for Nancy. When an unexpected knock sounds on her door, she encounters a man who turns out to be a vampire. He quickly hypnotizes her to gain access to Roy's laboratory. The vampire takes a box of dirt which Roy says is "the perfect soil," similar to the original soil once covering Earth. Roy believes the soil will help mankind, while the vampire plans to use it to permit vampires the ability to gather anywhere and anytime. Roy goes to the vampire's lair to retrieve the box of soil, but he has to survive the rest of the night while fending off the attacks of the League of Vampires until daybreak.

Grant Richmond was a little-respected junior partner at the law firm of Fuddy and Bustle who felt that the legal system made as much sense as the work of Lewis Carroll. So by night, he put on a costume and became the Mad Hatter. He can shine his top hat insignia against walls to strike fear into criminals, and he also speaks in rhyme.

Dave Clark was a radio announcer at UMAX but he decided to become a nocturnal crime-fighter, Midnight. His identity was based on a radio character who he voiced at the station when the actor was ill. His assistants included Gabby, a talking monkey, and Doc Wackey, reformed criminal/mad scientist. Later he was aided by Sniffer Snoop, an inept private detective. Midnight had no superpowers, but he was a skilled boxer. He carried several weapons and gadgets including a gun loaded with sleep-darts and a two-way wrist radio. He also carried a vacuum gun which fired a suction cup attached to a line of strong silk.

Denis Knight was a wealthy American sportsman who inspired by the chivalrous knights of the past, becomes the Green Knight. In this identity, Denis becomes a defender of the defenseless and keeper of justice. While patrolling the Everglades, Denis discovers a young boy has been kidnapped by a blood thirsty Vampire and his hulking minion. After saving the young boy, Lance Cooper, from the monsters, Green Knight adopts him as his crime fighting partner Lance. Green Knight had no powers but he was skilled with a bow/arrow and a sword. He was also capable at hand to hand combat.

The Black Phantom was a train robber who worked with a minion named Beast who wielded a bullwhip. She had a twin sister named Jicilla who was a dancer and singer at a saloon as well as a sweetheart to Tim Holt's friend Chito. However when Chito arrives to pick Jicilla up for their date he instead sees her twin Helena in her Black Phantom costume. The Black Phantom orders her men to kill him by dumping him down the well, but Tim Holt sees them carry his friend off and saves him as the Red Mask. While she started her career as an adversary of the western hero Red Mask, she eventually became Red Mask's crime fighting partner.

Dianne Grayton was a wealthy and beautiful young woman who grew bored and decided to become "the most horrible dispenser of justice of all times." She started disguising herself as a classic Halloween witch and using her spiders to scare and punish villains. Her power is to control black widow spiders. She is also athletic and a skilled fighter.

Wrestler Brett Carson possessed super strength that he used to fight crime. He was assisted by his sidekicks, Kid Muscles and Miss Muscles. His identity was publicly known.
