My first upload to Redbubble with the new Canon 5D MkIII & what better subject than the beautiful Somersby Falls. This one was taken on the steepish rock steps leading to the falls. There is a track leading to the main falls but getting to this one requires a bit of rock hopping & slow & steady stepping over slippery sections. Photographed with Canon 400D, ISO 100, F22, 2 seconds, RAW Mode. To get to this place you have to bend way down as you pass through the low rock ceiling behind the falls. Both times I needed to plant a hand in the mud to stop myself falling & picked up some mud that was almost as orange as my shirt & more orange than my hair ! I love the contrast of dark rock & artistically splashing white water. Somersby Falls, August 2014. A bit of rain after a long dry spell had the falls pumping again. There are wooden steps that lead to the main waterfall but to get to this spot the track is less defined with the occasional stone steps. A closer version of the Hoop Pine fruit showing the cool pattern on the outside of the fruit. Found on a forest floor near Gosford on the Central Coast of NSW, Australia. Canon 5D MkIII. Scientific name Araucaria cunninghamii. Other less commonly used names include colonial pine and Queensland pine. The scientific name honours the botanist and explorer Allan Cunningham, who collected the first specimens in the 1820s. The wider view of the second waterfall we photographed at Girrakool with a supporting waterfall on the other side.
