Gwr Steam Train Pins and Buttons

Ex GWR Large Prairie engine 5199 spent most of its working life in the Birmingham area based at Tyseley from 1934 to 49. It is photographed here in the Forest of Dean, visiting from the Llangollen Railway. The image depicts the engine as she would have worked, pulling a local passenger service on a branch line.

The Great Western Railways roundel, or shirt button was used on Engines and rolling stock in the period between 1934 and 1942.

Engine 5541 is a resident engine on the Dean Forest Railway with Engine 5521 as a visiting locomotive. 5521 is painted in London Transport colours and carries the number L150 to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the Metropolitan line.

The GWR 5700 Class, or 57xx class, was a class of 0-6-0 pannier tank steam locomotive, built by the Great Western Railway (GWR) and British Railways (BR) between 1929 and 1950. With 863 built, they were the most prolific class of the GWR, and one of the most numerous classes of British steam locomotive. GWR Prairie Tank Locomotive Number of views as of 4th March 2018 = 800. Took a little trip down memory lane a few weeks ago aboard a steam train hauled by this GWR 4575 class 'Prairie' tank locomotive on the Gloucestershire and Warwickshire railway from Toddington to Cheltenham Racecourse. Number 5542 was built in 1928 at a total cost of just over £3600, and entered service in the Gloucester area, before being transferred later to Bristol, Taunton, Newton Abbott and Westbury. Withdrawn in 1961 by British Railways after completing almost a million miles of service, the engine then spent 14 years rusting away in a scrapyard before being acquired for restoration. After many years of fundraising and painstaking work, number 5542 made a comeb...
