Nestled in the picturesque town of Estes Park, Colorado, the Stanley Hotel has beckoned travelers with its stately Georgian architecture and a renowned whiskey bar since its doors first opened in 1909. However, the hotel achieved unparalleled fame when it served as the inspiration for Stephen King's iconic fictional Overlook Hotel in "The Shining." Beyond this eerie association, the Stanley Hotel has become the stage for numerous ghostly encounters and unexplained piano melodies that have left guests intrigued. Embracing its reputation, the Stanley Hotel now offers nightly ghost tours and the opportunity for psychic consultations with the in-house Madame Vera, inviting brave souls to explore its paranormal mysteries.

Opening its doors in 1924, the 700 room Hotel Cecil’s developers had planned for the massive Beaux Arts-style building to be a premier destination for business travelers visiting downtown Los Angeles. Initially billing itself as “a popular hotel of fine distinction” in advertisements, the Great Depression’s arrival just five years later meant the influx of wealthy business travelers became a slow trickle and that tagline was changed to “a popular priced hotel of fine distinction.” Located just steps from what would become known as Skid Row, the now discount hotel became found itself as a housing option for the local transient population, which was estimated to already surpass 10,000 people in the 1930s.

Nestled on the fringes of the remote Great Karoo in Matjiesfontein Village, South Africa, the Lord Milner Hotel holds a unique place among the country's charming yet haunted accommodations. Matjiesfontein Village once functioned as the command headquarters during the South African War at the turn of the 20th century and later served as the site of contentious war crimes hearings. Given the village's tumultuous history, it should come as no surprise that the Lord Milner Hotel is steeped in paranormal tales. The hotel claims to host ghostly guests who have never departed, including the elusive "Lucy." This spectral presence, often seen in a negligee, occasionally creates mysterious sounds behind closed doors.

The Fairmont Banff Springs Hotel, a chateau-style gem constructed in 1888 to promote tourism and sell train tickets, graces the picturesque landscape of Canada's Banff National Park, nestled by the awe-inspiring Rocky Mountains. However, the ambiance takes on a more Gothic twist once you step inside, and we're not just referring to its architectural splendor. The Calgary Herald has chronicled reports of several resident ghosts, including a tragic bride who purportedly met her end tumbling down the stone staircase during her wedding. But there's also a less sorrowful spirit in residence: Sam the bellman, who diligently served the hotel until 1975, declared his intention to return in spectral form and fulfill his duties.

RMS Queen Mary is a retired British ocean liner that sailed primarily on the North Atlantic Ocean from 1936 to 1967 for the Cunard-White Star Line and was built by John Brown & Company in Clydebank, Scotland. Queen Mary, along with RMS Queen Elizabeth, were built as part of Cunard's planned two-ship weekly express service between Southampton, Cherbourg and New York. Following Queen Mary's permanent docking in California, claims were made that the ship was haunted. In 2008, Time magazine included the Queen Mary among its "Top 10 Haunted Places". One of the staterooms is alleged to be haunted by the spirit of a person supposedly murdered there. The Queen Mary Hotel promotes suite room B-340, a former third class cabin, as notoriously haunted.

Cuesta Verde is a fictional planned housing community located in Southern California. It is the main setting for Poltergeist (1982) and a desolate, abandoned version of it appears in Poltergeist II: The Other Side. The Freeling family household was among the first houses built in the community. The entire site sits atop a semi-relocated cemetery, as well as the final resting place of Henry Kane's cult.

The Tremont Hotel, more commonly known simply as 'The Tremont,' is a fictional hotel located in the equally fictional town of Sulphur Springs, Louisiana. Established in 1842 as a plantation by the Tremont family. The Tremont opened as a hotel in 1944, and quickly became famous for the hot springs that flowed through the woods behind the hotel. In 1960, the hotel began hosting a summer camp called Camp Tremont. The popular camp ran successfully for 30 years until a young camper named Savannah went missing in 1990. Her disappearance led to The Tremont closing down later that year, amidst rumors that she was haunting the hotel.

This noble castle is the tallest in France, and it exudes old world charm, but one of its past residents has shocked more than one visitor ... A double murder that occurred sometime in the 15th century within the walls of the castle has resulted in one of the more popular ghosts of the Château de Brissac, that of the la Dame Verte, or “Green Lady”. The current residents, the Duke of Brissac and his family, have become accustomed to her roaming the rooms, but she has scared many a guest.
