I decided to make this photograph to better illustrate the need for a more accurate balance in nature to be created and used this particular plant - deemed a weed as 'classic example' The great Ansel Adams... Once said, "you don't take a photograph, you make it..." and so for the past 12 years or so... I have been moving away from merely 'conventionally' taking a photograph and working on particular representation. Ansel, also said, something quite true which particularly resonates with me... "When words become unclear, I shall focus with photographs. When images become inadequate, I shall be content with silence" - Ansel Adams. I hope that my words through the years alongside my photographs, have become clear and continu...

Its very difficult to be unbiased when you love an image so much... but I do think that this is a good one..! Listening to 'many nature photographers' talking about 'focus on the eye closest to camera'... yes, well, it all depends... and it depends on the subject matter in question..!? I decided that in this image... I wanted to focus on the most important part of the bee responsible for 'spreading the love' with these charismatic essential little creatures - and that is both the body and the abdomen! Some bees collect 'pollen on their hairy bodies', then carry it back to their nests on their hind legs, whilst others carry pollen on the 'hairs on their abdomen'.

A friend mentioned that 'composition is everything' in photography - and he's absolutely right..! Looking beyond that and in particular photography within the natural sciences... is that of the reason for acquisition..!? This particular image, although lacking in detail and looking a little fuzzy upon magnification, made it into portfolio, because compositionally it is just perfect, with not often found, detailing due to the workable light 'within the eye'... and on the merit of its significance... The 'humble bumble bee' is under threat! Their weight is somewhat something to comprehend ~ because realistically because of their size... physics dictates that they shouldn't be able to fly!!!
