Inanna is an ancient Mesopotamian goddess associated with love, beauty, sex, war, justice and political power. She was originally worshiped in Sumer and was later worshipped by the Akkadians, Babylonians, and Assyrians under the name Ishtar. She was known as the "Queen of Heaven" and was the patron goddess of the Eanna temple at the city of Uruk.

The Mesopotamian symbol Knot of Inanna; a stylized bundle of reeds, and a representation of the Babylonian goddess Inanna. Whom you've probably heard of in relation to the Babylonian epic of Gilgamesh. It's actually an early written form of her name. The background was created in pools of pink and a bluish green which were allowed to spread, blossom and blend. Plus a touch of dry brush work.

Ishtar also commonly followed under the name Inanna is in many ways a goddess embodying the strength and the power of the divine feminine. A pillar of sacred power, Love, graciousness, ferocity, seductiveness, allure, mystery, fertility, maternity, beauty and strength. She symbolises war, sex, justice and political power! There are also references to higher consciousness, enlightenment and cyclical change and rejuvenation. 🌀🐍🌈 Many of Ishtar’s Sacred symbols are referenced in this piece, but this portrait also symbolises personal resilience and transformation in the emergence of ones own power, for my muse in this collaboration. The Ancient Mesopotamian goddess Lama was considered a protective goddess. Here she is depicted in a characteristic praying pose with her hands raised. She wears a ruffled skirt with her distinctive headdress and locks of hair. The original stele has her skirt covered in cuneiform which placed a curse on anyone who tampered with the goddess figure, but I've simplified it.

I recreated this design based on a 7th century BC Greek vase representing Artemis as Mistress of Animals.
