Jackson Brewing Company was a regional brewery operating in New Orleans, from 1890 to 1974. The brewery was founded by Lawrence Fabacher in 1890 as Jackson Bohemian Brewery; its name was later changed to Jax Beer, and finally Jackson Brewing Company, after Andrew Jackson and Jackson Square. It soon grew to be a prominent regional brewery, and at its height, it was the largest brewery in the south, and was one of two New Orleans breweries to survive Prohibition. Its French Quarter brewery remains a landmark in New Orleans, as after brewing operations ceased, the facility was turned into a mixed use space containing residences, shops, and restaurants.

St. Louis Cathedral at Jackson Square in New Orleans by Debra Martz In May we spent 3-1/2 days in New Orleans walking walking walking and riding street cars to see the sights. Most days there was a threat of rain so we had disposable panchos and umbrellas which, luckily, we never had to use. The rains came, but in the middle of the night. "The St. Louis Cathedral is one of New Orleans' most notable landmarks. This venerable building, its triple steeples towering above its historic neighbors, the Cabildo and the Presbytere - looks down benignly on the green of the Square and General Andrew Jackson on his bronze horse and on the block-long Pontalba Buildings with their lacy ironwork galleries. Truly, this is the heart of old New Orlean...

Your Carriage Awaits Black and White by Debra Martz After having my fill of beignets and cafe' au lait at Cafe Du Monde it was time to start walking again! The New Orleans riverwalk runs behind the coffee shop and is a great place for sightseeing. The Cathedral-Basilica of Saint Louis, King of France, also called St. Louis Cathedral, is the seat of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of New Orleans and is the oldest cathedral in continuous use in what would become the United States. It is dedicated to Saint Louis, also known as King Louis IX of France.

Thank goodness the Café du Monde is open 24 hours a day. After a long, long day of sight-seeing, photographing reference material for future paintings, painting, and generally enjoying a glorious and hot early summer day in the French Quarter of New Orleans, my dear friend Sonja and a stopped by the Café du Monde at midnight to enjoy a large plate full of delicious and hot French donuts covered in heaping amounts of powdered sugar and washed down with the perfect cup of Café au Lait. My mouth is watering just thinking about it and I daydream about returning one day soon.
