Lake Union Pins and Buttons

"Sailboat on Lake Union" is an art print I created using a fauvist oil technique. The technique focuses on bold brush strokes and abstract shapes to create this print. The setting is Lake Union in Seattle, Washington. On a warm summer day you can find sailboats and speedboats leaving their docks for a day on the water. Located just north of the downtown area, it is in the heart of urban life for Seattle residence. There are lots of docks along the shoreline that provide permanent residence for many of the boats that call this lake home. Lake Union is part of the Lake Washington Ship Canal that joins Lake Washington to the east to the open waters of the Puget Sound. The Union Association was a Class D level Minor league baseball circuit that operated from 1911 through 1914, with franchises based in Idaho, Montana and Utah. It was unrelated to the like-named 1884 major league. Beginning play in 1914, the Union Association was classified as a Class D league, based in the Rocky Mountains of the Western United States. The 1911 charter members were the Great Falls Electrics, Salt Lake City Skyscrapers, Butte Miners, Boise Irrigators, Helena Senators and Missoula.

The Salt Lake City Bees was a primary moniker of the minor league baseball teams, based in Salt Lake City, Utah between 1911 and 1970 under various names. The direct predecessor to the Bees were the Salt Lake City Skyscrapers that played in the class-D Union Association from 1911–1914. The Association folded after the 1914 season. However, in 1915, the San Francisco Missions were sold to Utah businessman Bill "Hardpan" Lane who moved the team to Salt Lake City. The club was named the Bees from 1915–1925.

The Mideast Side -- also known as "Mideast Los Angeles" and "MELA" -- is a region of Central Los Angeles (i.e. Hollywood, Downtown, Midtown, and the Mideast). It's the region of Los Angeles in which I live. The setting is Seattle, Washington looking across Lake Union just north of the downtown corridor. Most pictures of the Space Needle are from the Puget Sound looking east towards the city skyline. This perspective is of the Space Needle looking west across Lake Union and just focusing on the Needle without the high rises of downtown.
