Lake Whitefish Pins and Buttons

Is a member of the salmonoid family and are found throughout much of Canada and parts of the northern United States, including all of the Great Lakes.

Sawyer County, Wisconsin - Whitefish Lake

There are over 6,000 shipwrecks in the Great Lakes, having caused an estimate loss of 30,000 mariners’ lives. It is estimated that there are about 550 wrecks in Lake Superior, most of which are undiscovered. At least 200 lie along Lake Superior’s Shipwreck Coast, a treacherous 80- stretch of shoreline with no safe harbor between Munising, Michigan, and Whitefish Point. The famous Edmund Fitzgerald lies just 15 miles to the northwest of Whitefish Point.

A trip and day spent at Point Iroquois Lighthouse was what inspired this loose watercolor painting of the lighthouse in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. The beautiful view along with the beach (full of agates I might add) behind it, was a day like no other.

It is part of the whitefish genus and is a member of the salmonoid family. It is native to two lochs in Scotland, Loch Lomond and Loch Eck.
