In 1980, Datsun introduced the 720 as successor to the 620. In the US, the 720 came in regular cab and "King Cab" models, with regular and long bed options with standard (GL), deluxe (DX), and "Sport Truck" (ST) trim packages, all of which had two doors. In addition, from 1984 to 1986 a covered utility body style like that of the first generation 4Runner was available as an aftermarket conversion from a company called Matrix3 called the Bushmaster. The Datsun 720 was available in both 2WD and 4WD configurations, the latter having a divorced transfer case. K-Bar-S Bronco Specialties was founded by Hal Sealand and John Karp in the late '70s in Las Vegas, Nevada. The name of the shop is from their last names – K for Karp, S for Sealand. As the name implies, K-Bar-S specialized in custom Bronco parts. They also had a complete shop where they built some pretty amazing rigs, many of which went on to tough truck and Baja race events. Word is that the shop closed in 2001, but most of their rigs and exclusive aftermarket parts are still out there.

The Clod Buster is a 1/10-scale radio-controlled monster truck released in 1987 that is seen as a game changer for R/C enthusiasts. With its four-wheel drive, four-wheel steering, twin 540 motors and huge 165 mm tires, it quickly became one of the most popular radio-controlled model kits of all time. The Clod Buster and its related models virtually spawned an aftermarket industry of modifications that could be done to it to improve performance and durability. The aftermarket for the Clod Buster is so extensive that it is possible to build one entirely of aftermarket parts with no factory Clod parts whatsoever. Many small businesses have popped up over the years to cater to just the Clod Buster owner.

Desert Dynamics Winch Systems was founded in the late '60s in the arid desert town of Victorville, California. Desert Dynamics focused on extreme duty winch systems using a worm gear type drive that gave them a much slower line speed than planetary gear type winches, but also made them nearly unstoppable as long as the vehicle was capable of delivering the kind of power these powerful pullers required.
