The Royal Crescent, one of Bath’s most iconic landmarks, was built between 1767 and 1775 and designed by John Wood the Younger. This impressive landmark is arranged around a perfect lawn overlooking Royal Victoria Park and forms a sweeping crescent of 30 Grade I Listed terrace houses. It is without doubt one of the greatest examples of Georgian architecture anywhere in the UK.

I was in Charleston, West Virginia when I came across the state capitol. What an impressive building. With elements of Greek and Roman architecture, it stood so proud in the early spring light. This panoramic image is the product of three images, stitched together, to make this perspective challenging view of the building.

The beautiful history of Rome passes through the people's faith in their gods of the Olympic pantheon. And the architecture reflects, through large capitals and columns, the strength and beauty of classical Greek-Roman culture. Art and society walk together and evolve into new civilizations...the legacy is eternalized. It is enough for those who have affinity to appreciate it.

Originally captured on film in February 1984, this is an image of High Street, a mountain in the English Lake District. High Street rises to 828 metres (2718 feet). So how does a mountain get the name "High Street"? Throughout its 30 km or so north-south extent, the mountain is relatively smooth, smooth enough that it is believed that the Romans built a road along that length to keep them out of the dangerous valleys that surrounded the mountain. There is reasonable evidence to indicate that the road would have linked the Roman forts at Brougham (Brocavum) and Ambleside (Galava). Of course, the Romans like to build roads that are perfectly straight, but whilst that would be difficult in mountains, there are remnants that are just that...

Like many cathedrals, St Albans Cathedral is the product of many generations of work. The present structure is mainly Norman in origin, but there are older Saxon elements and later Gothic construction. Included in the construction are Roman stone blocks, which were taken from the Roman fort that at one time existed just down the hill from the cathedral. Added to this are the many repairs over the centuries, so the cathedral exhibits many architectural styles. You can see in the image, for example, how the construction of the buttresses changes halfway along the nave. That said, I love the image because it rightly reflects how imposing the structure is.
