The Saab 900 is a mid-sized automobile which was produced by Saab from 1978 until 1998 in two generations; the first from 1978 to 1993, and the second from 1994 to 1998. The first-generation car was based on the Saab 99 chassis, though with a longer front end to meet U.S. frontal crash regulations. The 900 was produced in 2- and 4-door sedan, and 3- and 5-door hatchback configurations and, from 1986, as a cabriolet (convertible) model. There were single- and twin-Zenith carburettor; fuel injected, and turbocharged engines, including both Full Pressure Turbo (FPT), and, in European models during the early 1990s, Low Pressure Turbos (LPT).

Saab 90 Retro Design

In 1938, the Swedish government founded Svenska Aeroplan Aktie Bolag (SAAB) for the purpose of the manufacturing of bomber and fighter aircraft for the Royal Swedish Air Force. They grew to be a very successful production company during the war, and post-war, the company began manufacturing civilian aircraft as well. Still looking for new products to start manufacturing, Saab decided to jump feet first into making automobiles. Needless to say, not everything they did was a hit, but eventually they got it right, leading to a long run of highly recognizable cars with an almost cult-like following of fans and enthusiasts. This design is based on the 1965 logo design employed by Saab which still played off their aerospace history.

Bond's vehicle of choice in many of the John Gardner Bond novels, beginning with Licence Renewed. Dubbed, "Silver Beast",36 it is Bond's private vehicle modified by a real-life company "Communication Control Systems" (CCS) (now called Security Intelligence Technology Group37). He also rents a Saab 9000 CD in Nobody Lives for Ever (1986) and No Deals, Mr. Bond (1987).
