RMS Queen Mary is a retired British ocean liner that sailed primarily on the North Atlantic Ocean from 1936 to 1967 for the Cunard-White Star Line and was built by John Brown & Company in Clydebank, Scotland. Queen Mary, along with RMS Queen Elizabeth, were built as part of Cunard's planned two-ship weekly express service between Southampton, Cherbourg and New York. Following Queen Mary's permanent docking in California, claims were made that the ship was haunted. In 2008, Time magazine included the Queen Mary among its "Top 10 Haunted Places". One of the staterooms is alleged to be haunted by the spirit of a person supposedly murdered there. The Queen Mary Hotel promotes suite room B-340, a former third class cabin, as notoriously haunted.

SS Pendleton was a Type T2-SE-A1 tanker built in 1944 in Portland, Oregon, United States, for the War Shipping Administration. She was sold in 1948 to National Bulk Carriers, serving until February 1952 when she broke in two in a storm. The T2 tanker ships were prone to splitting in two in cold weather. The ship's sinking and crew rescue (along with break-up and rescue of its sister ship Fort Mercer) is the topic of the 2009 book The Finest Hours: The True Story Behind the US Coast Guard's Most Daring Rescue, by Michael J. Tougias. Tougias' book inspired the 2016 Disney-produced film The Finest Hours with Chris Pine, which focuses on the Pendleton rescue.

After a rainy day the clouds are parting over the Solway Firth at Silloth, Cumbria. The East Cote Light Tower stands on the cliff top looking over to the Galloway hills in Scotland. The tower was established in 1841 to aid the ships sailing between Annan and Port Carlisle. In the 1850s it was apparently placed on a short track in order to move it to service the latest navigable channels. Currently it shines a green light over the Silloth approach channel. A digital drawing of RFAS 'Argus' lying off the coast of Bournemouth. The original image was captured from the pier during the Bournemouth Air Show. The vessel started its life as a container ship following its launch in 1981. Shortly afterwards, during the Falklands War in 1982 it was taken into service by the Royal Navy. In 1985 it became an aviation training ship before being converted to a Primary Casualty Recovery Ship. A full and varied life then!!
