GWR Prairie Tank Locomotive Number of views as of 4th March 2018 = 800. Took a little trip down memory lane a few weeks ago aboard a steam train hauled by this GWR 4575 class 'Prairie' tank locomotive on the Gloucestershire and Warwickshire railway from Toddington to Cheltenham Racecourse. Number 5542 was built in 1928 at a total cost of just over £3600, and entered service in the Gloucester area, before being transferred later to Bristol, Taunton, Newton Abbott and Westbury. Withdrawn in 1961 by British Railways after completing almost a million miles of service, the engine then spent 14 years rusting away in a scrapyard before being acquired for restoration.
