In some medical schools students are told "if you hear hoofbeats don't look for zebras", meaning don't go looking for rare illnesses or diseases. Well, for those of us who do have a rare condition, like Ehler Danlos Syndrome, that doesn't work. And so the zebra has become a symbol for EDS and other rare illnesses. Represent your disability while poking a bit of fun at the doctors who were too busy searching for horses they missed the stripes.
