Insignia is worn by members of the 1st and 2nd Battalions 1st Infantry Regiment. Constituted on 3 March 1791 as the 2nd Infantry, the regiment was redesignated as the Infantry of the 2nd Sub-Legion the following year and then as te 2nd Infantry in 1796. The 58th Infantry Regiment is a regiment of the United States Army first established in 1917. On 15 May 1965 Company C was activated in Germany at Nellingen, Germany,11 May 1965, under the provisions of TOE 7-157E (Infantry Long Range Patrol Company).
