This group of beautiful deep red poppies were spotted just off the promenade at Newbiggin by the Sea in Northumberland on the North East coast of England on a bright morning in early June, with the natural back lighting giving the image an almost painterly feel.

Back Lit Orchids is an art print I created using an impasto oil technique. This technique uses large bold brush strokes and strong colors. This particular art print depicts two bright red orchids. This planting of tulips was spotted in a churchyard in Blyth, Northumberland. The early evening light and weak sunshine gave the image a happy feel with colours of green, yellow and red filling the frame.

In winter these trees light up nicely as they are back-lit by the sun. This was taken on the Riverside Walk trail in Zion National Park, Utah, in December, 2005.
