Remembering the late great Fry's Electronics Store. Fry’s was a chain of superstores headquartered in Silicon Valley. Starting with one store located in Sunnyvale California, the chain operated 34 stores in nine states by 2019. They had everything, consumer electronics, household appliances, cosmetics, tools, toys, gift accessories, magazines, books on specialized areas of electronics, and computer hardware. Fry's even had in-store computer repair and custom computer building services. So sad to see them close.

De Montfort Island, or Fry's Island as it is also known is a natural island in the River Thames at Reading, in Berkshire, England. On it is a private house, a bowls club and a boatyard - all only reachable by boat! It lies between Caversham Bridge to the west and Reading Bridge to the east. Apparently in c1163 it was the site of a trial by combat between Robert de Montfort and Henry of Essex, King Henry II's standard bearer. Tin plate signs (such as this one) advertising various products were a common sight on railway station platforms in the United Kingdom in the last century. This one is probably something of a rarity and given that the product seems to have been endorsed by Queen Alexandra, wife of Edward VII, that would date it to the early 1900s. The company, J.S.Fry & Sons was founded by Joseph Fry in 1759. In the 20th century they produced some of England's favourite chocolate treats including Fry's Turkish Delight and Fry's Chocolate Cream (still available today).
