When constructed this was the worlds longest single span suspension bridge. The distance between the two uprights is approx 1.4 KM, nearly a mile. The overall length of the bridge is well in excess of a mile. The river it spans is the Hull. The bridge on the north bank is in Hessle, a small village about 6 miles outside the city of Kingston Upon Hull, or more commonly known simply as Hull. Feats of engineering like this always fascinate me and to have had the opportunity to go onto the north bank foreshore of the Hull and get this shot was simply amazing. Humber Bridge On our way back from a shopping trip to Hull we stopped off at Hessle and took a little trip down the Humber to get a wide angle shot of this impressive feat of architecture. The Humber Bridge, near Kingston upon Hull, England, is a 2,220-metre (7,280 ft) single-span suspension bridge, which opened to traffic on 24 June 1981. It is the seventh-longest of its type in the world. It spans the Humber (the estuary formed by the rivers Trent and Ouse) between Barton-upon-Humber on the south bank and Hessle on the north bank, connecting the East Riding of Yorkshire and North Lincolnshire.
