I took a last walk around this area of Edinburgh. The sun was shining again, the heat palpable, and in the air I detected the familiar tang of the hops from the breweries, several miles away. I walked on the quiet street, at the southern fringe of the New Town, fascinated by the symmetry and the evocative implicity of the Georgian buildings. I wanted to capture the play between the light, the colour of the stone, and the splashes of white from the painted walls and window frames. This work is a beautiful souvenir of a Scottish summer, a great gift and a perfect collection to any collection of Edinburgh artwork.

The Dappled Railings

Railings on a footbridge over the railway near Harlow Town Station. Harlow is mostly a new town in the district of west Essex, UK. It borders Hertfordshire and occupies a large area of land on the left bank of the upper Stort Valley. Old Harlow is a village founded in the early medieval period, mostly comprising Victorian buildings along it’s high street. The new town was built after World War ll to ease overcrowding in London due to the devastation caused by The Blitz. It was a Phase 1 new town along with Basildon, Stevenage and Hemel Hempstead after the New Towns Act of 1946. The master plan for Harlow was drawn up in 1947 by Sir Frederick Gibberd. Rocky Island is near Seaton Sluice in Northumberland on the North East coast of England. This image was shot on a bitterly cold January morning just after a storm with a hind of blue in the cloudy sky and a slight covering of snow on the clifftop footpath.

As the afternoon reaches its peak, the golden Edinburgh stone radiates magic, a bewitching magic that mesmerizes us and fills us with longing. A rare treat indeed is such a day of summer, a day when we can walk in our shirtsleeves and feel the gentle caress of heat. Above, a wide, blue Scottish sky, and from far, far beyond the city, comes the scent of the mountains, fresh and floral. I linger in the stillness of this crescent, memories of yesteryear my only companion. A perfectly symmetrical row of houses, jewels of Georgian design, havens of timeless beauty in the city. This work is rich in light, full of satisfying detail and fresh, vivid colour. A perfect gift an ideal souvenir of Scotland’s splendid capital city.

Rocky Island is near Seaton Sluice in Northumberland on the North East coast of England. This image was shot on a bitterly cold January morning just after a snow storm with the bright winter sunshine casting long shadows, snow on the ground and some welcome blue sky showing.

Tynemouth Long Sands on the North East Coast of England pictured on a warm summer morning, but with a cold wind. This stretch of beach is very popular at all times of the year with dog walkers and strollers, and this image shown the northerly view down steps looking towards Cullercoats. There is a similar image in portrait format available also.

A beautiful old stone arched doorway at the top of a flight of steps. This is one of several old dooways to be found in the village of Margon which lies in the Hérault department of the Languedoc-Roussillon region of southern France. The stone steps are flanked by graceful wrought iron railings and are topped with pots of plants. The image has been finished in the style of a chalk pastel drawing.

A long walk on the lower edges of the New Town, soothed by the gentle heat, refreshed by the air that hints of lands beyond the Forth, of pine and heather and sea salt. The sky is so blue, so deep. It is a unique light, a rare treat, casting a spell of sorcery and magic, turning the stone to gold and the windows to crystal and sapphire. This view is rich in vivid colour, rich in detail and rich in detail. It makes an ideal gift, a wonderful addition to any collection.

Edinburgh on a beautiful day of summer, a day filled with glorious Scottish sun, when the stone absorbs light and the city lives up to its unofficial title of Athens of the North. I walk alone, along streets, and crescent, and through squares, familiar and unchanged since childhood, inhaling the city’s scent. It is fresh, filled with flowers and with the thick, malty smell of distant breweries. It feels timeless, Eden-like, dreach wet days of fog, sleet and rain forgotten and forgiven. Houses In Hull, England

Do you like classical architecture? Do you think a glazed porch is beautiful? And facades of houses with charm? Well, this is a gift suggestion for someone who has the same tastes as you. How about a gift like that for someone you know, friends, family and colleagues? This landscape with access to the garden is a romantic and tasteful corner.

A footbridge inviting us to cross over the River Pang at Tidmarsh, West Berkshire. Once over we can pass through the gate into the meadows and walk to Sulham. To our right is historic Tidmarsh Mill, once home to Lytton Strachey and Dora Carrington. To the left the river flows on to meet the Thames at Pangbourne. The Pang, one of England's ecologically valued chalk streams, starts its life on the Berkshire Downs near Compton (depending on rainfall!) and supports a wide variety of wildlife.

This image was taken on a blustery day in November with the North Sea crashing into Tynemouth Pier with lots of seagulls in the air and converted to black and white for dramatic effect. The pier protects the north bank of the River Tyne as it flows into the North Sea on the North East coast of England.

A walk in Scotland’s capital brings me to the edge of the New Town, where the hills are steep and the light glimmers like a magic, playful spell on the golden stone. A row of shops in various colours catch my eye, a contrast to the Georgian symmetry. There is a mathematical precision to the architecture, lines that converge, in beautiful harmony. This work is rich in detail and in colour and would make a perfect gift, and a fantastic addition to any collection of Scottish works.

Just before sunrise on a blustery January morning with the colourful sky over the North Sea and the piers protecting the mouth of the River Blyth in Northumberland on the North East coast of England.

Valletta is the capital city of Malta, and a world heritage site. Some of the streets are very steep with long stairs leading to the next level. This image gives an indication of the scale of these features and has been converted to black and white to emphasise the structures.

Tynemouth Front Street is an eclectic mix of Georgian houses, fish and chip shops, restaurants and pubs. This slightly different view of the area was shot from near Georgian houses looking north towards the church steeple.
