Pendle Panopticon Number of views as of 7th July 2019 = 1100. This is "Atom", the Pendle Panopticon, part of a "visionary scheme to create a unique series of 21st century landmarks across East Lancashire... as symbols of the renaissance of the area". Obviously the lunatics are no longer confined to the asylum and have infiltrated Lancashire County Council, whose idea it was "to encourage a wider public to discover Wycoller and from there to go on and explore the delights of the surrounding countryside". An admirable aim chaps, but perhaps a few brochures would have done the trick! Ore Truck, Morwellham Quay Number of views as of 13th May 2019 = 275. This truck would have been used in the 19th century to transport ore from the Tamar Valley copper mines to ships waiting at Morwellham Quay (Devon, England). The ships would transport the ore down the River Tamar, around Lands End and up to South Wales, which had a plentiful supply of the other essential ingredient required for copper production, i.e. coke to fire the smelting furnaces. Morwellham was established in the 10th century by Benedectine monks from Tavistock Abbey to carry goods to and from Plymouth. Later, tin, lead and silver ore were transported from the Quay. However its heyday did not come until the 1840s when rich copper deposits were discovered at the ...

LV Calshot Spit Number of views as of 29th May 2019 = 560. Southampton's lightship, LV78 'Calshot Spit' once marked the entrance to Southampton Water. The vessel, built in 1916, has now moved to a new home close to one of Southampton's ocean liner terminals. The backdrop to the shot is one of P & O's largest cruise ships, Azura. Poole & Purbeck Sunset Number of views as of 13th September 2018 = 4100. Number of sales as of 13th September 2018 = 3. At dusk on an autumn evening, the sun sets beyond the Purbeck hills and the lights begin to appear down in the town of Poole. Location: Canford Heath, Poole, Dorset, England. Camera: Canon EOS 400D + Canon EFS 18-55 mm lens. Date: 6th November 2011.

Summer Blooms Number of views as of 10th April 2018 = 680. Shot in the walled garden, Upton Country Park, Poole, Dorset, England. Date: 18th August 2012.

St Barnabas, Snowshill Number of views as of 13th August 2018 = 730. The church of St Barnabas in the lovely village of Snowshill, Gloucestershire, England. The church was built in 1864 from the characteristic, local, honey-coloured, Cotswold stone. The village was used as a set for the the home of Bridget's family in the year 2000 film 'Bridget Jones's Diary'. Date: 24th May 2014.

The Belvedere Number of views as of 3rd October 2018 = 440. The Belvedere Tower, in the grounds of Powderham Castle (Devon, England) provides extensive views over the River Exe estuary. The Gothic style tower was built in 1773 and during the 1800s it was adapted to include accommodation on two floors. Sadly, two fires in the last century gutted the building and it is now a ruin. Date: 14th April 2015.

Athelhampton Hall Number of views as of 4th March 2018 = 575. Athelhampton is a fine example of a 15th century, Tudor, country manor house situated approximately 5 miles east of Dorchester (Dorset, England). Date: 31st August 2014. Click here- to see another view of Athelhampton.

Sherborne Castle Sherborne Castle (Sherborne, Dorset, England) is a tudor mansion, built in 1594 by Sir Walter Raleigh. It has been the ancestral home of the Digby family since 1617. The gardens, grounds and lake are the work of Lancelot 'Capability' Brown and date from 1753. Not that the good people of Sherborne are greedy or anything, but the 12th century ruins of Sherborne Old Castle adjoin the grounds of the new castle. Date: 4th September 2016.

Mupe Bay and Bindon Hill Another view of Mupe Bay (Isle of Purbeck, Dorset, England), this time looking eastwards along the Jurassic Coast towards Arish Mell and Worbarrow. The cliffs below Bindon Hill drop sharply down to the shore here with rock falls always a possibility. Date: Good Friday, 25th March 2016.

Perspective

On Broadway Hill Number of views as of 4th June 2017 = 490. Yellow buttercups and white flowered hawthorn trees line this delightful footpath, a part of the Cotswold Way near Broadway, Worcestershire. The 65 feet tall Broadway Tower folly (top left) was built in the 1790s. Date: 25th May 2014.

Sark Bus Number of views as of 5th June 2017 = 400. There are no cars on the Channel Island of Sark, but tractors are allowed, as are bicycles and horse-drawn carts. Visitors to the island who can't make the long trek uphill from the harbour to the village centre do make use of the 'Sark Bus', which is basically a covered trailer towed by one of the island's tractors as shown here. Sark is just over 2 square miles in area and has a population of around 600 people, swelled during the summer months by visitors who arrive chiefly from the neighbouring island of Guernsey. Sark lies just off the coast of France, to the east of Guernsey and north-west of Jersey. Sark was designated a Dark Sky Community in 2011 and became the first Dark Sky Is...

The Folly, Mount Edgcumbe Number of views as of 8th March 2018 = 460. The Folly stands sentinel overlooking Plymouth Sound and the city of Plymouth (Devon, England). The Folly itself is actually located in Cornwall (Mount Edgcumbe Country Park on the Rame Peninsula to be more precise). It was built in 1747 using medieval stone from a couple of churches which once stood in the Stonehouse district of Plymouth. I was inspired to seek out this lovely spot for myself after seeing a shot of it a few years ago by fellow Red Bubble member Don Davis and it's been on my 'must visit' list ever since. Upper Slaughter Number of views as of 12th April 2018 = 625. The idyllic Cotswold village of Upper Slaughter near Stow-on-the-Wold and Bourton-on-the-Water (Gloucestershire, England) is one of only 14 so-called 'doubly thankful' villages in England & Wales. Doubly thankful because the village men who went to fight in the Great War and in the Second World War all came back home again. The River Eye runs through the village and is forded just here. Red Bridge Heaven Number of viewings as of 15th May 2017 = 380. I'm always tempted by images of red bridges in Japanese gardens, but in this shot there are not one, but FIVE such structures! Taken in the grounds of Wilton House, Wilton, not far from the city of Salisbury, Wiltshire, England. Date: 4th April 2015.

Hand Cart Number of views as of 8th December 2016 = 500. A painted hand cart complete with begonias! Pictured at Buddens Farm, the Dorset County Scout camp site, near Wareham (England). Date: 17th September 2011.

Double Frontage Number of views as of 13th June 2019 = 390. Edmondsham House, near Verwood (Dorset, England) was originally built in 1589 as the Tudor front of the house (right of picture) suggests. Great Court Garden, Athelhampton Number of views as of 19th June 2018 = 700. The Great Court Garden at Athelhampton, 5 miles east of Dorchester (Dorset, England) has 12 yew trees, which are carefully tended to retain their pyramid shapes. The gardens were originally planted in the 1890s by Alfred Cart de Lafontaine. The house itself is much older, dating from 1485. Date: 31st August 2014. Click here to visit my Trees collection.

Morgan Number of views as of 28th September 2016 = 650. Another superbly turned-out Morgan to add to my collection (I wish)! If you can't have British Racing Green, then this full-bodied, claret paint job comes a close second. The Morgan Motor Company is the last remaining, family-owned, independent, British motor car manufacturer. They build about 100 cars a month, each one subject to exacting standards of design, craftsmanship and performance. Date: 28th September 2014. Location: Sherborne, Dorset, England. Coneflower & Bee Number of views as of 30th January 2017 = 350. The Coneflower (Echinacea) is a genus of herbaceous flowering plants in the daisy family (Asteraceae) normally found in eastern and central North America. This one was pictured at the Cambridge University Botanic Garden, Cambridge, England. Date: 5th August 2013.

Old Harry Number of views as of 22nd April 2019 = 1330. Old Harry Rocks are situated on the Dorset coast between Studland and Swanage. They mark the eastern end of the "Jurassic Coast" World Heritage Site, stretching from here to East Devon, demonstrating a rich geological history going back 185 million years. The chalk stack on the right is I believe Old Harry himself, though there does seem to be some disagreement about this. The name 'Old Harry' may be a synonym for the devil, or it could be that the rocks were named after a famous Poole pirate, Harry Paye, who used to store his contraband nearby. There is absolutely no truth in the rumour that the rocks take their name from English football manager Harry Redknapp, a resident of nearb...

Poole Bridge Number of views as of 25th April 2016 = 300. This shot shows Poole Bridge, which is situated at the western end of Poole Quay (Dorset, England) and links the main town of Poole with the suburb of Hamworthy, the site of Poole's ferry terminals. The bridge was constructed in 1927, replacing an older swing bridge on the same site and it is still in regular use, being lifted 7 times a day to allow maritime craft to pass from Poole Harbour into Holes Bay and vice versa. In the foreground are the Royal National Lifeboat 'City of Sheffield' (a Tyne class lifeboat formerly stationed at Whitby) and the Harbour Police RIB. Old Portsmouth Harbour Number of views as of 25th April 2019 = 730. Number of sales as of 25th April 2019 = 8. A view of Camber Dock, Old Portsmouth (Hampshire, England) with the 170 metre landmark Spinnaker Tower in the background. Date: 2nd January 2012.

High Speed Cat Number of views as of 29th August 2018 = 620. One of three high-speed catamarans formerly operated on routes linking the English ports of Poole and Weymouth, the French port of St Malo and the Channel Island ports of St Peter Port (Guernsey) and St Helier (Jersey). This 'cat' and her sister ships were built by a Tasmanian company (Incat) and were registered in Nassau in the Bahamas. The vessels are 86 metres (282 feet) long, weigh 5000 tonnes, can carry 800 passengers and 200 vehicles, and have a maximum speed of 40 knots. Date: 23rd August 2014. Crossing La Coupee Number of views as of 27th June 2018 = 775. La Coupee is a narrow strip of land, just 10 feet (3 metres) wide, connecting the island of Sark (in the Channel Islands) and the peninsula of Little Sark. There are no motor cars on Sark, only tractors and horse-drawn transport. Here, one of the island's horsemen negotiates the narrow causeway. This has to be done at quite a speed to give the vehicle enough momentum to get up the slope behind me. And with a sheer drop of 260 feet (80 metres) either side, there is little margin for error. Bridge over the River Wye Number of views as of 18th July 2018 = 2380. This bridge crosses the river Wye in the border town of Chepstow, south Wales. The bridge was opened in 1816. Wand Shop Number of views as of 13th October 2017 = 2120. 'Makers of Fine Wands since 382 B.C', or so reads the inscription over the doorway of the wand shop in Diagon Alley made famous by the series of books and films about a popular wizard character, whose name I am apparently not allowed to mention any more. Date: 9th March 2014.

The QuarterJack Number of views as of 20th November 2018 = 400. Standing high on the West Tower of Wimborne Minster, the QuarterJack strikes his bell every quarter of an hour, ringing out across the Dorset market town. The Minster itself, a former monastery and Benedictine nunnery, is the resting place of King Ethelred of Wessex, and is over 1300 years old. It is famous for its unusual chained library, one of only four surviving chained libraries in the world. Date: 28th June 2008.

The Tea House, Compton Acres Number of views as of 18th July 2018 = 1380. Another shot of the Tea House in the Japanese Garden at Compton Acres, Poole, Dorset, England. Compton Acres was laid out in 1924, in a Victorian mixed style design with seven distinct gardens to wander around and enjoy, including the fine Japanese and Italian Gardens. The Japanese garden is superbly planted with and maintained, with stepping stones and bridges crossing the pond, where large koi swim close to the surface. Date: 8th May 2010. The Italian Villa is a recent addition to the renowned Compton Acres gardens near Canford Cliffs (Poole, Dorset, England).
