Before Battletoads, batrachian aficionados spent their time honing their amphibian-based skills in Ocean Software’s Cosmic Wartoad. The queen of the cosmic wartoads had been taken by the Rygellian Slime Beasts, turned into a human and was being held captive beneath the Slime King's Sludge Saw. As the game’s protagonist, you would battle your way across the Rygellian Timevoid, collecting pieces of an important toolkit to shut down the saw before your queen was subjected to a rather violent, brief and untimely end. California Games is a 1987 Epyx sports video game originally released for the Apple II and Commodore 64 and ported to other video game consoles such as the Sega Master System. This game consists of a collection of outdoor sports purportedly popular in California.

Impossible Mission is a video game originally for the Commodore 64 published by Epyx in 1984. The gameplay mechanics vary from platform to adventure and includes digitized speech. Impossible Mission casts the player in the role of a secret agent infiltrating an enemy stronghold, is widely considered one of the best games for several platforms.

Arcadia was a video game on the Commodore 64 and the ZX Spectrum published by Imagine.

After finding that computer game publishers were not interested in his first game, war game enthusiast Joel Billings launched his own company to publish and distribute his computer titles in 1979. Calling his new venture Strategic Simulations, Inc. (SSI), it didn't take long before Billings' company was the dominant force in computer war games. Throughout the '80s and into the early 1990s, SSI was holding its own against the publishers that once turned down Billings' games. The mid-'80s saw SSI began licensing properties to be used as new computer war game titles. SSI was acquired in 1994, spent time as part of a toy company, and finally became part of a larger game house that ended up by retiring the brand name a few years later.

The SAM Coupé is an 8-bit British home computer that was released in 1989. It was designed to have compatibility with the Sinclair ZX Spectrum computer. It featured a compatible screen mode and emulated compatibility, and was marketed as a logical upgrade from the Spectrum.
