'Fynbos' is an acrylic painting inspired by unique plants and flowers growing across Cape provinces in South Africa. This painting was created during the National South African lockdown period for Covid in 2020.

The name "False Bay" was applied early on (at least three hundred years ago) by sailors who confused the bay with Table Bay to the north. The Blushing bride is a paler shade of pink. The free-flowering fynbos bloom is critically threatened, though the shrub is cultivated as a cut flower.

I love proteas, they are such wonderfully sculptural flowers. Plus, they're South African. So maybe I'm biased ...

This pattern took me ages, long enough to make me wonder what I was thinking even starting on such an ambitious (for me) project. But my garden is full of proteas, and they are so lovely, I find their shapes and colors endlessly inspiring, so it had to be done. I couldn't ignore them anymore. : )
