Like many cathedrals, St Albans Cathedral is the product of many generations of work. The present structure is mainly Norman in origin, but there are older Saxon elements and later Gothic construction. Included in the construction are Roman stone blocks, which were taken from the Roman fort that at one time existed just down the hill from the cathedral. Added to this are the many repairs over the centuries, so the cathedral exhibits many architectural styles. You can see in the image, for example, how the construction of the buttresses changes halfway along the nave. That said, I love the image because it rightly reflects how imposing the structure is.

Someone hilariously wrote the word "Reddit" on the wall of an underpass at a roundabout in Stevenage, UK. I couldn't help but take a photo of it!

Wand Shop Number of views as of 13th October 2017 = 2120. 'Makers of Fine Wands since 382 B.C', or so reads the inscription over the doorway of the wand shop in Diagon Alley made famous by the series of books and films about a popular wizard character, whose name I am apparently not allowed to mention any more.
