Lulworth Cove, September 2021 Lulworth Cove, on Dorset's Jurassic Coast is a hugely popular tourist attraction, and with good reason as the clear blue water and spectacular views will testify. However, if it's peace and tranquility that you want, it is probably best avoided during the summer months at least. Commercial exploitation has led to the village becoming choked with cars and double decker busses, and the footpath to nearby Durdle Door often looks like a procession. Personally, I can't wait for the grockles to sod off back to Torremolinos. Date: 5th September 2021.

Lulworth Castle Number of views as of 8th April 2018 = 700. Lulworth Castle (East Lulworth, Dorset, England) was built in the early 17th century as a hunting lodge by Thomas Howard, 3rd Viscount Howard of Bindon. In 1641 it was purchased by Humphrey Weld as part of the Lulworth Estate for the princely sum (in those days) of £30,000, and the Estate has remained in the hands of the Weld family to this day. A serious fire in 1929 raged for 3 days and completely destroyed the interior of the Castle along with the roof, and the Castle lay in ruin for over 60 years. In the 1990s, however, thanks to funding from English Heritage, the stonework was restored, the Castle re-roofed, and the building is now open to the public on most days except for...

Lulworth Castle Reprised Number of views as of 4th December 2017 = 1100. A third (and final?) shot of Lulworth Castle (Dorset, England), this time taken from the south-west corner of the grounds and showing three of the castle's four turrets. Rebuilding of the castle (following a disastrous fire in 1929) was part funded by English Heritage. More information on the history of the castle can be found here. Date: 6th May 2013.

St Andrew's Church, East Lulworth The Parish Church of St Andrew's, in the Isle of Purbeck village of East Lulworth (Dorset, England) dates from the 15th century, but whilst the Tower is original, much of the church was rebuilt in the 1860s. The Church adjoins Castle Park, part of the Lulworth (or Weld) Estate, which also features a 17th century castle (partly destroyed by fire in 1929) and a Roman Catholic chapel, built in 1786. Part of the Lulworth Estate is a Ministry of Defence firing range and a wildlife conversation area. Unlike its neighbour West Lulworth, the pace of life in East Lulworth seems more relaxed and tranquil (except when the military are firing of course). Date: 7th May 2017.

Lulworth Castle, August 2017 Originally built as a hunting lodge, Lulworth Castle (East Lulworth, Dorset, England) was completed in the early 17th century. Key events in the castle's history include being used as a garrison during the English Civil War, acting as a residence for several members of the French Royal family who were exiled following the Revolution, and suffering a disastrous fire in 1929, which left the castle without a roof. Thankfully the castle was restored in the 1970s, with help from English Heritage and is now a popular tourist attraction and wedding venue. The grounds include both a church of England and also a Roman Catholic chapel. Date: 28th August 2017.

I enjoyed painting this view, and especially all the strata in the rocks. It comes from Lulworth Cove on the Jurassic coast in Dorset, UK. Most visitors flock to the circular cove that gives the place its name, or head the other way from the large carpark, over the hill to the rock arch of Durdle Door. This view though is Stairhole - a rock formation between the two, where a sloping wall of rock allows the sea in through a few holes (two are shown here). Its a popular spot for adventurous types who play in the water and climb on the rocks, and also with geology students, but on a rough day like this it can be deserted. Mupe Bay Number of views as of 22nd November 2016 = 150. This shot was taken on a walk across the Lulworth Ranges to the east of Lulworth Cove, on the Isle of Purbeck, Dorset, England on Good Friday, 2016. As the area is UK MOD property, public access to the coastal footpaths which cross the Ranges is limited, and visitors are advised to check opening times before using them. The walk is not for the faint-hearted either, the contour lines on the Ordnance Survey map are close together along here, and there are no 'facilities' on the 5 mile stretch between Tyneham and Lulworth Cove. Those who do attempt the walk however are rewarded with spectacular views and stunning scenery, which Dorset's superb Jurassic Coast is famed for. This shot sh...

Man O'War Bay Number of views as of 27th June 2016 = 310. The 95 miles of stunning coastline between Old Harry Rocks in East Dorset and Exmouth in East Devon Coast make up the 'Jurassic Coast', England's first World Heritage Site. Man O'War Bay is situated to the west of Lulworth Cove and just east of the landmark Durdle Door. This part of the coast was in the news recently due to several 'landslips' in the area.
