I was a fan of Conrad Veidt since I saw him in Cabinet .... and Casablanca when I was young. He also fought anti-Semitism and for Gay rights. He smuggled his parents-in-law out of Austria to save them from the Nazis. My Hero!!

The Cabinet Of Dr. Caligari Design is inspired by Robert Wiene's silent German Expressionist classic starring Werner Krauss and Conrad Veidt. Released in 1920, the film tells the story of an insane hypnotist who uses a somnambulist to commit murders. Heavily stylised and revolutionary for its time, The Cabinet Of Dr. Caligari is recognised as a classic and considered by some to be the first horror film.

The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari (German: Das Cabinet des Dr. Caligari) is a 1920 German silent horror film, directed by Robert Wiene and written by Hans Janowitz and Carl Mayer. Considered the quintessential work of German Expressionist cinema, it tells the story of an insane hypnotist (Werner Krauss) who uses a brainwashed somnambulist (Conrad Veidt) to commit murders. The film features a dark and twisted visual style, with sharp-pointed forms, oblique and curving lines, structures and landscapes that lean and twist in unusual angles, and shadows and streaks of light painted directly onto the sets.
