Toes Beach Jetty in Playa del Rey (PDR to locals) is the northernmost end of Playa del Rey. The beach was named by a group of local surfers one summer day circa 1961 as "Toes Over Beach," "Toes Beach" or just "Toes”, a name derived from the "toes over," "toes over the nose" or the Hang Ten surfing maneuver. Surf Beach, near Lompoc in Santa Barbara County, has waves suitable for beginners - except for those sharks. This beach break features both right and left waves over a sandy bottom. Despite its fairly good waves, Surf Beach has witnessed two fatal shark attacks in the last three years. The area surrounding Surf Beach boasts beautiful dunes, coastal flora, and abundant wildlife. Shit Pipe got its name from the Hyperion pipe that leads out to sea. The Hyperion plant is, yes, actually a sewage treatment center. pic Surf Designs, great places to surf around the world.Sitting 10km (6mi) west of the town of Margaret River, the famous Margaret River lefts known as Surfers Point can be found, grinding down the reef. It is a peak in swells up to 6ft (2m) but Margaret’s is all about size and the lefts will handle plenty of that. Heartstopping drops, lumpy bowls and cutback walls are all part of the waves’ personality and it can handle a healthy dose of onshore wind, maintaining shape and some face smoothness for long, swooping turns. Watch out for speed bumps when cranking off the bottom and keep an eye on the horizon. Getting caught inside is no fun and positively dangerous if taking on the rights. Emma Wood State Beach draws surfers year-round with the summer months becoming crowded. The right beach break at the northern end of the park is known as J-Bowls. At the south end of the park a left break is called Mushpots. The best waves generally come with swells rolling in from the west, southwest, and northwest. There is also a reef break known as Ventura Overhead that experienced surfers wait for. It only happens a few times a year. Continuing series of great places to surf on the west coast. Volcanoes is a lava rock reef break, which is on the way to Cab San Quintin. Volcanoes is worth checking out on the way there. Volcanoes is good and can get really heavy, definitely experts only. Volcanoes stretches from the village of "Los Volcanes" to just north of the village of "El Playon," which is also an excellent break. This whole area has great surf that is always going- off. Make sure that you wear booties, due to the sharp lava rocks at Volcanoes.

This is another of my continuing series of great places to surf on the west coast. SWAMI'S is a fantastic surf spot in Encinitas California. Swami's, also known as "Swamis", is an internationally known surfing spot, a point break located in Encinitas, California. Swami's was named after Swami Paramahansa Yogananda, because the grounds and hermitage of the Self-Realization Fellowship ashram, built in 1937, overlook this reef point. Access to Swami's is primarily by way of a small but well-appointed cliff top park, which has bathrooms, a water fountain, benches, picnic tables and a lawn under shade trees, as well as a small parking lot. My continuing series of great surf spots on the USA west coast. Trestles, part of the San Clemente State Beach, is split into five different sections. Lower Trestles, one of the most popular spots, is better-known due to the number of high-profile competitions and contests held there, but all sections are excellent for surfing. Trestles is hailed as one of the best beaches to surf because of the continuous swells, rocky reef and cobblestoned ocean bottom provided by the local watershed, San Mateo Creek, as well as the overall geography along the West Coast. The Superbank extends from Snapper Rocks Point, through Rainbow Bay, Greenmount Point, Coolangatta Beach, and Kirra, for a distance of around 2 kilometres (1.2 mi). Multiple barrel sections can now occur at any point along this length. The quality of the surf in the first 4 of these sections has markedly improved since the 1990s, and is now of legendary quality, creating one of the longest, hollowest and best waves in the world. However, the quality of the last section, Kirra, which has long been regarded as one of the world's best waves prior to the formation of the Superbank, has suffered.
