The legend of the phoenix. A mythical bird that lives for an eternity in cycles of 500 to 1000 years, ending every life cycle by igniting in flames and turning to ash, only to be reborn from the very ashes itself. It's rebirth as a stronger and more powerful entity. Stories of the phoenix have been told as far back as ancient Egyptian times. This is a very personal piece. It's one that I have needed to create for a long time. It's also one that I didn't know how to create, or even if I would be able to. One of Australia's most colourful birds, seen in great numbers around the Queensland coast.

The first time I ever saw a Mallee Ringnecked Parrot, at Arkaroola in outback South Australia on a recent photography tour.

Each year when the bottlebrushes come into flower in our area, a colony of Scarlet Honeyeaters move in...to the delight of all the local bird photographers.
