Apollo 7 was a human spaceflight mission carried out by USA in October 1968 during the time of the space race. It was the first mission in the Apollo program to carry a crew into space and orbit earth. Even though it didn't actually fly to the moon, it was the important predecessor and led the way for Apollo 8, the first manned moon orbit space flight.

Apollo 11 had three parts: its command module is the cone at the tip of the rocket, its service module is the grey cylinder (upper centre), and the Lunar Module (LM) is in the white flared fairing at lower centre. Astronauts Neil Armstrong, Michael Collins and Edwin Aldrin were launched in Apollo 11 on 16 July 1969. Armstrong and Aldrin used the LM to land in the Sea of Tranquility region of the Moon on 20 July 1969, whilst Collins orbited in the Command and Service Modules.

From lower left, the rocket consisted of the first stage, equipped with five F-1 engines and fuel used during take-off. The Lunar Module was housed in a compartment (seen here with panels open) above the third stage. Apollo 13 Nasa's third attempt to land a man on the moon had to be aborted when the oxygen tanks in the service module exploded leaving the craft stranded in space. The incident was reported to Mission Control with the understated phrase: "Houston, We Have A Problem". The astronauts relocated into the Lunar Module, looped around the moon and then used the thrusters from the lunar module (intended only to descend to the moons surface), to bring them back home. Apollo 9 preformed the first two successful rendezvous and docking with the Command and Service Module (CSM) and Lunar Module (LM).

The name Apollo 1 was formally assigned to the mission in the spring of 1967 in memory of the astronauts who lost their lives.

Apollo 13 is a 1995 American space docudrama film directed by Ron Howard and starring Tom Hanks, Kevin Bacon, Bill Paxton, Ed Harris and Gary Sinise. The screenplay dramatizes the aborted 1970 Apollo 13 lunar mission and is an adaptation of the 1994 book Lost Moon: The Perilous Voyage of Apollo 13. The film depicts astronauts Lovell, Jack Swigert and Fred Haise aboard Apollo 13 for America's fifth crewed mission to the Moon, which was intended to be the third to land. En route, an on-board explosion deprives their spacecraft of much of its oxygen supply and electrical power, which forces NASA's flight controllers to abort the Moon landing and turns the mission into a struggle to get the three men home safely.

The Artemis program is a US government-funded human spaceflight program that has the goal of landing "the first woman and the next man" on the Moon, specifically at the lunar south pole region by 2024. The program is carried out predominantly by NASA, U.S. commercial spaceflight companies contracted by NASA, and international partners. NASA is leading the program, but expects international partnerships to play a key role in advancing Artemis as the next step towards the long-term goal of establishing a sustainable presence on the Moon, laying the foundation for private companies to build a lunar economy, and eventually sending humans to Mars.

Apollo / Nasa Mission Flight Patch - In Memorium. The crew of Apollo 1 were burned to death during training when the oxygen in their command module simulater ignited. The mission flight patch was allocated posthumously in memory of the tragic incident. (see more designs like this in The Blue Box)
