Columba is a small, faint constellation named in the late sixteenth century. Its name is Latin for dove. It is located just south of Canis Major and Lepus. This eye-catching design is perfect for anyone that likes astronomy, planets, stars, galaxies, or astrology.

Vintage illustration astronomy and antique celestial star chart featuring four constellations, Canis Major, Lepus, Columba Noachi and Cela Sculptoris. Canis Major (Latin for greater dog) is commonly represented as one of the dogs following Orion the hunter. Canis Major contains Sirius, the brightest star in the night sky, known as the 'dog star.' Lepus (Latin for hare or rabbit) is located below Orion (the hunter), and is sometimes represented as a rabbit being chased by Orion. Columba Noachi ("Noah's Dove") refers to the dove that gave Noah the information that the Great Flood was receding. Cela Sculptoris is Latin for "the sculptor's chisel."

They are beautiful in their ubiquitousness. With their iridescent feathers, like jewels of the street and sky. This little painting is an homage to the common pigeon.

This design was inspired by the famous love sign in Philadelphia. I have used two tartan patterns and replaced the letter O in IONA with a heart and the letter I in IONA with the celtic cross. Hope you like it.

Iona Abbey & Nunnery is an Abbey located on the tiny island of Iona, just off the Isle of Mull. One of the oldest Christian religious centres in Western Europe, dating back to 563 it was established when St Columba came to Iona from Ireland and remains a popular site of Christian Pilgrimage today.
