These illustrations are based from some of my childhood memories of growing up in the coal mining village of Pegswood in the North East of England. “Pinnie” is the name for the colourful apron women in mining villages in the North East of England wore constantly throughout their working days, and the term “Hinnies” is the name most Geordie men, affectionately called their woman in the mining villages, hence the name of the series Pinnie Hinnies.
