Hungerford Wharf T-Shirts

Hungerford Wharf on the Kennet and Avon Canal in West Berkshire, seen from the towpath on the town bank of the waterway. Always a good place for the local ducks as they often get fed here! This was captured on a bright sunny day in late November, A peaceful scene now, but in the past this would have been a hive of industry with canal boats loading and unloading goods such as Bath stone for building, agricultural produce and equipment, coal and general goods.

This is very near the centre of Hungerford - a picturesque market town famed for its antique shops. This is beauyifully peaceful now but many years ago it would have been busy with boats loading and unloading their cargoes and carrying out maintenance. This canal links Bristol and Bath with Reading, the Thames and London.

It's a cold winter's morning at Hungerford Wharf on the Kennet and Avon Canal. There's ice floating on the surface of the water but at least it's bright and sunny! In the foreground is 'The Rose of Hungerford' a wide beam boat which takes visitors for trips along this lovely waterway. Hungerford itself is a picturesque market town in the extreme west of Berkshire, well known for its antique shops.

Ducks are gathered here as it's a favourite place to be fed! This is very near the centre of the town - its wide, tree-lined high street famous for its antique shops. Here at the Wharf it was once a hive of industry with boats loading and unloading their cargoes. Now it's a peaceful place to sit - and feed the ducks!

The wharf at Hungerford in West Berkshire, England. The Kennet and Avon Canal flows through Hungerford on its way to Newbury in the east and Marlborough in the west. Now peaceful and picturesque, in the mid 1800s, the wharf was a hive of activity with boats loading and unloading at the many industrial buildings then lining its banks. Hungerford is a small market town on the River Dun which joins the Kennet and the canal just to the east. Its wide high street is famous for antique shopping.

During the mid 1800s, this was a thriving industrial area lined with buildings. Boats would have been busy loading and unloading goods such as Bath stone for building. The canal was constructed between 1794 and 1810 to link the Thames at Reading with Bristol, enabling goods to be transported from London to Bristol.
