The Tower of London, officially Her Majesty's Royal Palace and Fortress of the Tower of London, is a historic castle located on the north bank of the River Thames in central London. It was founded towards the end of 1066 as part of the Norman Conquest of England. The castle was used as both a royal residence and a prison from 1100 until 1952. The Tower of London has played a prominent role in English history. It was besieged several times, and controlling it has been important to controlling the country. The Tower has served variously as an armoury, a treasury, a menagerie, the home of the Royal Mint, a public record office, and the home of the Crown Jewels of England. The iconic Broadgate Tower, which was designed by Skidmore, Owings & Merrill, was completed in 2008 and sits in the heart of Lonon's financial district. Used as a location for the James Bond movie 'Skyfall', the tower uses the air rights from the neighbouring Liverpool Street train station and is built over the Northbound rail tracks. Axonometric drawing allows us to see an object as a diagram. Here, Broadgate tower is captured as an axonometric projection through iterative drafting techniques. Drawn in technical pen with india ink at a large scale to ensure clarity on large paper sizes, and printed on a calming pastel shade background.

Here, London’s iconic space station Skylab 7 (I mean, the BT Tower) is captured as an axonometric projection. The tower was designed by the architects of the Ministry of Public Building and Works and is typically brutalist and utilitarian for its time, and emblematic of European TV Towers like Berlin’s TV Turm. The building is concrete structure clad in glass. The narrow cylindrical shape was chosen because of the requirements of the communications aerials: the building shifts no more than 25 centimetres in wind speeds of up to 150 km/h! Big Ben is the name commonly given to the largest striking bell of the clock tower of the Palace of Westminster. The tower was designed by Augustus Pugin in a neo-Gothic style and finished in 1859. The level of detail Pugin designed into the facades of the tower are renowned and captured here, without any clock hands - feel free to add a time that is important to you! The tower is a cultural icon recognised all over the world. It is one of the most prominent symbols of the United Kingdom and parliamentary democracy, and it is often used in the establishing shot of films set in London.
