The Gateshead Millennium Bridge is a pedestrian and cyclist tilt bridge spanning the River Tyne in England between Gateshead's Quays arts quarter on the south bank, and the Quayside of Newcastle upon Tyne on the north bank

This bridge across the River Tyne has become a landmark for the north-east of England and a catalyst for local regeneration. The bridge links Newcastle’s thriving north bank with the Gateshead Quays arts and cultural quarter. The bridge is essentially two graceful curves, one forming the deck and the other supporting it, spanning between two islands running parallel to the quaysides.

This image was taken on a very blustery day in January with the North Sea crashing into Tynemouth Pier and the early morning sunshine lighting up the sea outside the shadow of the pier itself . Work on the pier was started in 1854 and it was originally curved, but storm damage to the central part of the pier led to it being re-built in a straight line. The image has been given an artistic filter in the style of Cezanne for something just a little bit different.
