Seaham Harbour T-Shirts

The old Chemical Beach located at Seaham Harbour on the North East Coast of England. Once a thriving mining and chemical industry used the sea as a dumping ground for waste products. The landscape on the seashore was altered giving an almost alien appearance - and has been used for movie scenes in the film Alien. The colouring with the full moon has been used to enhance the otherworldly image.

The marina at Seaham Harbour was once home to a multitude of local fishing vehicles, landing their catch daily and selling it along the dockside. Over the years, as fishing declined, the docks and harbour changed. Now with new marina gates protecting the leisure craft, the marina is home to local boat owners. The area now includes busy cafes and shops, along with the Lifeboat Heritage Centre. Here the image show dawn breaking over the marina.

The coastal town of Seaham Harbour is in County Durham on the north east coast of England. Once a very busy port exporting coal from the numerous mines in the area and chemicals and glass from the chemical works, it is now a much quieter area. A search of the beaches in the area still show the history of the area, with old wagon tracks and uprights visible on the less frequented beaches. Here a set of old wagon wheels sit in the sea, only visible a low tides......they stand proud against the sea, with Seaham pier and lighthouse in the background, a reminder of the history of the area.

The sculpture is of a British soldier of World war One, known as Tommies, here Tommy has his head bowed......Is he fired of the futility of war, or remembering his fallen comrades?

The Slope Beach and Pier at Seaham Harbour. The slope is a sheltered sandy beach located between two piers at the harbour entrance. It was once an area where families visited and children learned to swim. Following refurbishment of the North Pier and the marina, it now attracts more visitors. The sunrises at low tide give some great images, as do the winter waves that pound the pier.

The Blast Beach as it is locally known, is located just south of Seaham Harbour, in the area of Noses Point on the County Durham coastline of North East England. The beach was once a dumping ground for the old waste from the mines and chemical works - with the Chemical Beach, being close by. The sea stack, is unusual in that it has never been named.

A surprisingly unnamed magnesian limestone sea stack on the Durham coast. The beach on which it sits, south of Seaham, is named after the Seaham Chemical Works which occupied the immediate cliff top for a short time. It was established in the 1860s, by the 1890s it had gone. But Chemical Beach continued to be abused. The sand was extensively removed by the Seaham and Londonderry Bottle Works to make glass and coal waste from the Dawdon Pit was dumped into the sea. The beach and cliff top have been cleaned up. Natural is recovering. The magnesian limestone provides a rare habitat for flora and butterflies and is under the protection of the National Trust.

This now famous statue of a Great War soldier by artist Ray Lonsdale is displayed on the seafront in Seaham, County Durham, in North East England. The statue was originally a temporary feature, but local fundraising resulted in the statue's purchase and it is now a permanent reminder of WW1

Seaham Harbour is a small town on the County Durham coast of England. Once a very busy harbour shipping out coal, glass and local fishing boats bringing in fish, crabs and lobster. Now though, the harbour is much less busy. The beaches, were once very busy in the summer with locals making the most of the sandy areas, though now, like the harbour they are much quieter. here the sunrise is seen over the groin towards the old Featherbed Rock.

A view across the Old Chemical Beach, passed Liddle Stack, over Noses Point, Seaham Harbour and off north to Sunderland. The Heritage Cost, has a number of little bays in the area, the beaches vary from rock and shingle to soft sand. Here the view is over the older beaches, that were used as a dumping ground for the waste materials of the mines and the chemical factory of Seahams industrial past. The wooden uprights show the route the old wagons took to the dumping areas. All cleaned now and beaches that have been awarded Blue Flag status.

The old Chemical beach of Seaham harbour, so named for the period that the chemical works were situated on the cliffs above the beach. Once the chemical waste was piped directly into the Seaham and other waste was carried along the beach on small rail carts - now all that remains are the remnants of the tracks and some old wagon wheels in the sea. The statue 1101, locally known as Tommy is of a First World War British Tommy, striking a pose of tiredness. Tommy sits on the seafront at Seaham Harbour in County Durham and was recently voted the best art work in the UK. Here the image has been enhanced with the important words 'Lest We Forget'. The stone poppy is recreated each year on the approach to Remembrance Sunday and differs in style.

Tommy 1101 is a sculpture that sits on permanent display next to the cenotaph on the coast at Seaham Harbour. Created and named to commemorate the end of hostilities and to remember of all of the war dead and injured from World war One, Tommy sits with head bowed. The stone poppy and the embroidered poppies are added in the run up to the anniversary of Armistace Day.

The incoming tidal flow of the sea as it begins to submerge the remains of the old groynes. Captured using an extended shutter speed to enhance the outgoing flow, then converted to black and white to add drama to the image.

The old wagon wheels are a set of wheels that are visible at low tide on the old 'Chemical Beach' situated at Seaham Harbour on the north east coast of England. They are from an old wagon that used to run along a line from the area of the old chemical works to the harbours. The slow shutter of what was a fantastic sky adds to the character of the image.
