The James Webb Space Telescope (JWST or "Webb") is a space telescope that is planned to be the successor to the Hubble Space Telescope. The JWST will provide greatly improved resolution and sensitivity over the Hubble, and will enable a broad range of investigations across the fields of astronomy and cosmology.The JWST is being developed by NASA—with significant contributions from the Canadian Space Agency and the European Space Agency.

This region is 10,000 light years from Earth, in the constellation of Carina. This composite image combines data in infrared (red and green) and optical (blue). The infrared data is from the IRAC instrument on the Spitzer Space Telescope and 2MASS (Two Micron All Sky Survey). The optical data is from the DSS (Digitized Sky Survey).
