Stradun T-Shirts

This image depicts the Stradun, the main street in the old city of Dubrovnik. The city is like a medieval theme park; everything seems to be as it was, except, that is, the thronging masses of tourists. My image was captured from the massive wall that surrounds the old city, from just above the main gate.

Some of the many visitors that pour into the Old Town of Dubrovnik each day strolling up the limestone-paved main street, Stradun.

It was a damp, overcast day as we walked along the Stradun, the main street in Dubrovnik's old city. We had been told by a guide a few days earlier that the old shop fronts incorporated an entrance way and a serving hatch, so the shops were quite small with many of these lined up along the building. Of course time has moved on so several of these old shops could now be one business. In this instance, "Leandro" is a fairly high-end business that mainly caters to tourists with a taste for a new watch. The entrance was a door or two along. In capturing the image, I wanted to capture the unique framing of the shop front, the wonderful limestone on the face of the building and street, but also highlight the window display. It was a rainy day in Dubrovnik. It was early May, so the tourist season wasn't yet in full swing, but those who were there were out enjoying a stroll along the Stradun, the main street in Dubrovnik's old city. Umbrellas and plastic raincoats abounded. These tourists were out to take in this medieval time capsule as best as they could.

While visiting Dubrovnik, I noticed this display of rubber ducks in a shop on the Stradun, the principal street in the old city. They were all so delightful that deserved to be photographed.
