Phantasm is a 1979 American science fantasy horror film that was locally financed with a cast and crew that were mostly amateurs and aspiring professionals. The self-titled first film in the franchise, introduces the Tall Man, a supernatural and malevolent undertaker who turns the dead of Earth into dwarf zombies to be sent to his planet and used as slaves. He is opposed by a young boy, Mike, who tries to convince his older brother Jody and family friend Reggie of the threat.

The Dunes Cantina opened its doors in 1936 at 16232 Pacific Coast Highway in Huntington Beach, California. It was a dive bar that maintained its wild west roots and was really only known to the few regulars that called it home over the decades, but that all changed after it got a cameo appearance in the 1979 horror movie, Phantasm

Of course, a few minutes of screen time in a cult classic flick doesn't exactly change a place's fate, as it only stuck around a few more years before becoming a sushi joint in 1983.
