The Brook Horse, Bäckahästen or kelpie is a fearsome river creature that takes the form of a white horse so beautiful and docile that the bewitched observer has the overpowering desire to ride it. Once upon its back however, THIS horse will pull you into the watery depths of its real home, the river or another body of water.

These mythological hippocampi, a mythical creature with the head of a horse and the tail of a fish, grace a lamp-post on the Victorian Grattan Bridge at Capel Street, Dublin.
