The 2d Battalion served almost seven years in South Vietnam. Fighting scattered actions under two different brigade headquarters from the Mekong River delta in the south to the Vietnamese Demilitarized Zone up north, they earned 27 campaign streamers, six American and eight Vietnamese unit citations between them, including two Presidential Unit Citations earned by 2nd Battalion for An Khe and Dak To.

The 10th Cavalry Regiment is a unit of the United States Army. Formed as a segregated African-American unit, the 10th Cavalry was one of the original "Buffalo Soldier" regiments in the post–Civil War Regular Army. It served in combat during the Indian Wars in the western United States, the Spanish–American War in Cuba and in the Philippine–American War. The regiment was trained as a combat unit but later relegated to non-combat duty and served in that capacity in World War II until its deactivation in 1944. The regiment have served in conflicts ranging from the Vietnam War to Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom.

In 1965, the 1st and 2nd Battalions were deployed to South Vietnam with the 1st Infantry Division. 2nd Battalion were badly mauled during the Battle of Ong Thanh in October 1967. Early 1970 saw the end of the participation of the 1st and 2nd Battalions of the 28th Infantry in this war.

In 1955 the 3d Armored Division was reorganized for combat and shipped to Germany the next year.One of the main combat forces of the 3dAD was at Ray Barracks at Friedberg (CCC/3d Brigade).

The division served in the III CTZ, with headquarters at Bien Hoa (Oct 1965 – Jan 966), Di An (Feb 1966 – Jan 1967), Di An and Lai Khe (Feb – Sep 1967), Lai Khe (Oct 1967 – Oct 1969) and Di An again (Nov 1969 – Apr 1970). The division left Vietnam in Apr 1970.

3rd 13th Field Artillery Battalion was organized in 1966 and deployed to Vietnam as part of the 25th Infantry Division and in 1970 they were relieved of duty and returned to Schofield Barracks.

The 2nd BN of the 4th Artillery was a towed 105MM Howitzer battalion supporting the 9th Infantry Division. Supporting the 2nd Brigade. Later the 2/4 was assigned to support 3rd Brigade under the 25th Infantry Division

The units arrived at Fort Benning in 1965, and then proceeded to the Republic of Vietnam as air and armored cavalry. In Vietnam 5th Cavalry units participated in twelve campaigns. In May 1971, the units moved to Fort Hood, where they were reorganized as mechanized infantry.

In the Vietnam War, the First Cavalry Division suffered more casualties than any other army division: 5,444 men killed in action and 26,592 wounded in action. However, the First Marine Division suffered 7,012 men killed in action and the Third Marine Division suffered 6,869 men killed in action.

On 19 April 1968, the 2nd Battalion of the 138th was deployed to Vietnam to provide fire support to the 101st Airborne Division in northern South Vietnam. On 19 June 1969, their firebase, Firebase Tomahawk, was attacked by the North Vietnamese Army 4th Regiment. The attack was repulsed, with the 138th suffering 9 casualties, and the North Vietnamese suffering 23

The 17th Cavalry Regiment is found across the army within the combat aviation brigades, where the squadrons, now constituted as attack/recon helicopter squadrons, carry on the legacy of the 17th Cavalry Regiment.

The 4th Field Artillery Regiment is a Field Artillery Branch regiment of the United States Army first formed in 1907.

5th Battalion, 60th Infantry (Mechanized Dec. 1966 – 12 September 1968; Infantry 13 September 1968 – October 1970) Activated at Fort Riley, Kansas, and assigned to the 9th Infantry Division for its deployment to the Republic of Vietnam in December 1966. The 9th Division was the only major U.S. combat unit to conduct operations in the Mekong Delta. On 13 September 1968, the 5th/60th Mech was "swapped" with the 1st/16th of the 1st Infantry Division. From then until August 1970, the 5th/60th operated as a "straight leg" infantry unit.

The 50th Infantry Regiment is a United States Army infantry regiment. Reorganized and redesignated 1 July 1963 as the 1st Battalion, 50th Infantry Relieved 1 September 1967 from assignment to the 2d Armored Division for duty in the Republic of Vietnam. Served under the 3d Brigade, 4th Infantry Division [Binh Dinh and Kontum Provinces] Mar 1968 - Apr 1968.

Three battalions, the 1st, 2nd and 5th, served during the Vietnam War as the 3rd Brigade of the 1st Cavalry Division. 3rd Brigade often referred to itself as the "Garryowen Brigade". These troopers were armed with the new M16 rifle, M1911A1 Pistols and the M79 grenade launcher. The use of Bell UH-1 Iroquois "Huey" helicopters transformed the 1st Cavalry into an "Air-mobile" unit. Seven men earned the Medal of Honor while serving with the 7th Cavalry in Vietnam

The 33rd Field Artillery Regiment is an inactive field artillery regiment of the United States Army, first constituted in 1918 in the National Army (USA). A parent regiment under the U.S. Army Regimental System, the regiment has no active regiments. The regiment saw active service with the 1st Infantry Division in World War II. The regiment's 2nd and 6th Battalions served in Vietnam.

The 1st and 2nd Battalions and the 3rd Battalion were assigned to the 24th Mechanized Infantry Division (United States) at Fort Stewart, Georgia on 16 December 1987. From September through November 1966 the soldiers of "Tropic Lightning" participated in Operation Attleboro, East of Tay Ninh City, in War Zone C. In 1967, the 25th and 4th Divisions, both located in the Pleiku area swapped and interchanged men, equipment and commands of a number of units. By the end of 1970 a large portion of Tropic Lightning soldiers had returned stateside to their base at Schofield Barracks, Hawaii. Stationed at Fort Lewis, Washington, the 2nd Battalion, 3rd US Infantry Regiment, serves as one of three infantry battalions of the 1st Stryker Brigade Combat Team of the 2nd Infantry Division ('Indian Head'). After a 31-year hiatus from service, the 2nd Battalion was reactivated on 15 March 2001 as part of the US Army's first Stryker brigade (inactive) combat team. It served as part of the first deployment of a Stryker brigade combat team in 2003. It then served a 15-month deployment in 2006–2007. It deployed to Iraq again in 2009 and Afghanistan in 2011.

The 1st Cavalry Division ("First Team") is a combined arms division and is one of the most decorated combat divisions of the United States Army.[2] It is based at Fort Hood, Texas.
